BTEC507 FUNDAMENTALS OF BIOTECHNOLOGY 1

In this course, students are introduced to the fundamentals of different fields of biotechnology. Topics such as food, plant, and environmental biotechnology, industrial microbiology, bioprocesses, recombinant technology, pharmaceutical biotechnology, computational techniques, biomaterials are introduced by competent faculty members.

BTEC508 FUNDAMENTALS OF BIOTECHNOLOGY 2

This course includes the principles of new biotechnology, rDNA techniques, tissue culture, basic molecular biology, structure of nucleic acids, genetic engineering, DNA cloning techniques, Recombinant DNA technology, gene manipulation principles and research techniques in biotechnology.

BTEC510 ETHICAL ISSUES IN LIFE SCIENCES

The course firstly focuses on philosophy and epistemology of life sciences, and critically examines their basic epistemological assumptions and fundamentals, especially those relevant to recent biotechnological practices. It, then, elaborates on the ethical issues in life sciences with a special emphasis on animal and plant biotechnology, in general, and the genetically engineered crops, transgenic animals, pharmacogenetics and pharmacogenomics, stem cell research, cloning, patenting of organisms, etc. in particular. The ethical aspects of all these practices are discussed considering their more comprehensive social consequences and environmental impacts. It also considers the problems that relate to research ethics.

BTEC598 RESEARCH SEMINAR

The course is composed of research, analyze, data collecting and reporting the results of the master student relating to the specific subject the student aims to study.

BTEC 585 BIOSENSORS

Biosensors are modern bioanalytical devices, which are developed with a support of biology, physics, chemistry, biochemistry and engineering departments by combining the specificity features of biological materials or systems with the processing abilities of modern electronic techniques. The aim of this course is to give basic information about the biosensors to the students.
