About

Biotechnology is technology that uses biological systems, living organisms, or parts of them to develop or create different products.

The biotechnology master’s program has been providing education since the 1996-1997 Fall Semester in order to provide qualified manpower in this field. IZTECH’s expert academic staff and laboratories offering many opportunities enable students to take part in interdisciplinary research throughout their graduate education. Thesis supervision for students enrolled in the program is given jointly by at least two faculty members from different disciplines at IZTECH.

The aim of the Biotechnology Master’s program is to integrate basic sciences and engineering principles with molecular and cell biology knowledge to create a foundation based on the interdisciplinary knowledge needed in biotechnology and bioengineering applications. In the broadest sense, the mission of the program is to provide students with extensive scientific and technological equipment to create the human potential to solve scientific and industrial problems in matters such as health, medicine, agriculture and environment. Thanks to this mission of the program, our graduate students can pursue academic or sectoral careers.

Doctoral education in the department was previously provided within the scope of the interdisciplinary joint Bioengineering doctoral program in partnership with 9 Eylül University. After termination of joint programs, “Industrial Biotechnology” and “Medical Biotechnology” programs were opened in 2020. The aim of these interdisciplinary doctoral programs is to provide qualified manpower needed by industry and academia in these fields, who can conduct advanced research and combine the foundations of different fields such as basic sciences and engineering sciences.
